Treatment

Ants and wasps in the house and yard

Ants wake up with the first warm weeks, and wasps build all summer. I treat the nests and trails I can reach and tell you what I can't.

Signs to look for

  • A line of ants from a wall to the kitchen
  • Sawdust-like piles below a window frame or a beam
  • A nest under an eave, in a porch ceiling or in the ground
  • Wasps going in and out of one spot all day

What I do

Four steps

  1. 01

Step 1: I find where it starts

Following the trail back to the wall, the ground or the wood it comes from.

  2. 02

Step 2: I treat at the source

Where the nest is, not just where you see them, from the ground or a ladder.

  3. 03

Step 3: I treat the outside edge

A line along the foundation and around doors and windows, when it's needed.

  4. 04

Step 4: I tell you what to watch

What to leave alone for a few days, and when to text me.

Before and after

What you do, and what I do

  • What you do

Don't spray the trail yourself before I come. It scatters them. Wipe up what draws them and keep gates closed.

    • Leave the trail alone

    • Put food away and wipe counters

    • Tell me about pets and chickens nearby

  • What I do

I treat at the source and follow the label. High nests are not mine to take down, and I'll say so.

    • Treat what I can reach

    • Say what I couldn't

    • Callback if the same pest returns in 60 days

Questions about ants and wasps

Can you take down any wasp nest?

No. I treat nests I can reach from the ground or a ladder. High nests on a roof edge or in a tall tree are another kind of job, and I'll say who to ask.

Are carpenter ants a problem for my house?

They can be when there is damp wood. I look at where they are nesting and tell you what's draw them, and whether wood needs a carpenter.

What if it's a bee?

Honey bees are not mine to treat. A beekeeper near you may take a swarm, so text a photo and I'll tell you what it is.

When is the best time?

Ants in spring, wasps in early summer when nests are small. Dates shift with the weather.

A picture and where you saw it is enough to start.
